CITIZEN announces three new Eco-Drive One models with
Super Titanium™*1 and one Limited Edition model with Altic*2
at BASELWORLD 2018
Adopting new materials for enhanced beauty and quality for Eco-Drive One
CITIZEN is proud to announce three new models of its flagship Eco-Drive One at BASELWORLD 2018. In 2016, CITIZEN introduced the Eco-Drive One, the world’s thinnest*3 light-powered watch, while commemorating the 40-year anniversary of CITIZEN’s proprietary light-powered technology, Eco-Drive*4. The new generation of the Eco-Drive One embraces a 1.00 mm thick movement, and offers improved comfort and durability. This is achieved by incorporating CITIZEN’s own engineered materials technology, offering the first Eco-Drive One made with Super Titanium™, for a lighter and stronger timepiece. In addition, a limited-edition Eco-Drive One model is being released.
Super Titanium™ Models
The three new Super Titanium™ models embody all the elements of a truly modern watch: beautiful, highly wearable, and reliable. Super Titanium™ is CITIZEN's proprietary engineered material that takes solid titanium and treats it with Duratect α*5, leaving a material that is 40% lighter than stainless steel, with a surface more than five times harder. Protected by a sapphire crystal, the watch is hypoallergenic and resistant to rust, scratching and water, achieving a perfect balance between strength, sleek design and daily comfort. It’s an accomplishment only made possible by over 40 years of history which CITIZEN has devoted in the development of titanium-processing and surface hardening technology.

*1. Super Titanium™ is CITIZEN’s proprietary technology to treat solid titanium with CITIZEN’s proprietary surface hardening technology, Duratect. It is at least 5 times harder than stainless steel, resistant to scratches, lightweight and gentle to the skin for comfortable wearing.
*2. Altic is an alloy made of aluminum, titanium and carbon that measures more than 1,900 HV (Vickers hardness number)

*4.Eco-Drive is CITIZEN’ s proprietary technology that powers watches using any natural or artificial light source, eliminating the need to replace batteries. Certified as an Eco Mark product for the first time in the watch industry.
*5. Duratect is surface hardening technology exclusively developed by CITIZEN to maintain the luster and beautiful finish of watches. Treating materials such as titanium and stainless steel with this technology improves the hardness of the material’ s surface, making watch cases and bands resistant to scratches.
*6. Cermet is an advanced composite composed of ceramic and metallic materials. It is made by combusting a mixture of hard compound particles such as metallic carbides and nitrides with metallic binding materials.
*7. Binderless cemented carbide is a type of cemented carbide mainly made of tungsten carbide powder with no metallic binder such as cobalt and nickel. It has superior hardness, corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance.
