Super-Titanium

What is Super-Titanium

The Super Titanium Collection is a synergy of lightweight titanium material, and Citizen's original technology in ion-plating to further harden the watch surface. Using this technology, the surface rates 1200 on the Vickers scale, resulting in a watch to be both light and hard.

TITANIUM (Ti) + ION-PLATING (IP)

The Super Titanium Collection rates 1200 on the Vickers scale through the application of Citizen's original technology in ion-plating. The watch is five times harder than other stainless steel watches. As well as being light and hard, the collection is available in various designs.

Ion-plating is one of the key technologies used in the space program. In Citizen's ion-plating technology, a titanium material is ionized by being heated to 2000℃ in a vacuum, using an electron beam. The ionized titanium is then pressure-bonded onto the watch surface to form a coating.

Highlights of Super Titanium

*SUPER HARD COATING
Rating 1200 on the Vickers scale.
Surface hardness is five times harder than stainless steel.

*SUPER LIGHT WEIGHT
Specific gravity 4.51g/cm3
40% lighter than stainless steel

The super light material allows comfortable fitness, which frees sports players from sense of wearing to concentrate on the game.

Specific gravity Titanium: 4.51 g/cm3
Stainless steel: 7.9 g/cm3

Comparison of Scratch

Hardness of Material

Stainless Steel - Hv150-220
Normal Titanium - Hv170-200
Super Titanium – Hv1000-1200

Stainless Steel
The tested surface is scratched
easily and luster of the mirror-
finished surface is lost.

Super Titanium
The tested surface is less scratched and luster of the mirror-finished surface is maintained.

Remarks: Vickers hardness (Hv) is measured by pressing a probe made of diamond against a test piece. This method is applicable to very hard material and is widely used as the standard for other hardness tests.
